On Wednesday April 15, 2015 we were in the beautiful synagogue on Folkingestraat in Groningen where Monique Brinks presented its third part of the trilogy The Scholtenhuis 1940-1945.

The Scholtenhuis stood on the east side of the Grote Markt in Groningen and was during the occupation most notorious and feared, because from this building the SD conducted a reign of terror in the three northern provinces of Groningen, Friesland and Drenthe. A trilogy normally consists of three books, but this is a special trilogy, because it consists of four books, since Part 3 covers two books. Part 3a deals with the flight of the SS and SD from the Scholtenhuis to the island Schiermonnikoog. It is described as an exciting story and reads a lot easier than the other books, which sometimes can be quite heavy going. The fact is that Monique Brinks has done a thorough investigation and the presentation of Part 3 means a closure of not less than 8 years of research.
